Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman 7th March Speech
Today I have appeared before you with a sad mind. You all know and understand. We have tried our best. Today the highways of Dhaka, Chittagong, Rangpur and Jessore are stained with my brother’s blood. Today, the people of Bengal want to be liberated – they want to live, they want to get rights. The hope was that the National Assembly would sit and we would make a constitution and the people of that constitution would get their economic, political and cultural emancipation. But the history of 23 years is the history of painting the highways with the blood of the people of Bengal.
The history of 23 years is the history of the dying cries of the people of Bengal, the history of donating blood. A history of the cries of oppressed people. We donated blood in 1952. Despite winning the 1994 elections, he could not stay in power. Ayub Khan imposed military rule on the country in 1956 and kept us as slaves for 10 years. 6 points were given in 1966 and then many of our brothers were killed for this crime. In the face of the census of 969, Yahya Khan came after the fall of Ayub. He said he would return power to the people, give the constitution, we agreed.
Everyone knows what happened after that. Talks were held with Yahya Khan – we requested him to convene a session of the National Assembly on 15th February. But despite being the leader of the majority party, he did not listen to me. I heard about Mr. Bhutto from the minority party. I am not only the leader of the majority party of Bengal but also the leader of the majority party of Pakistan. Mr Bhutto said to call a session in the first week of March, he called a session on March 3.
I said we would still go to the National Assembly and we would accept if anyone, despite being the majority party, spoke the truth, even if he was one.

Mr. Bhutto came to Dhaka. Talks with him. Mr Bhutto said there would be more talks if the door to talks was not closed. Other West Pakistani parliamentary leaders, including Maulana Noorani and Mufti Mahmood, came to discuss the issue with them. However, I have informed them that I have no right to change the six points, it is the property of the people. But Bhutto threatened. He said he could not come here and be a double hostage. The council will turn into a slaughterhouse.
He threatened the West Pakistani members that if they joined the council session, they would be bloodied and their heads would be beheaded. Will be killed. The movement will start from Peshawar to Karachi. A store will not be allowed to open.
Despite that, thirty-five West Pakistani members came. But on March 1, Yahya Khan adjourned the session. The people of Bengal were blamed. I was told that nothing happened because of my inflexible attitude.
Then the people of Bengal became protesting. I called a strike to continue the peaceful struggle. The people came down the road of their own accord.
But what did we get? Weapons were used on unarmed Bengali people. We have no weapons. But we bought that weapon with money to protect the country from external enemies. Upcoming weapons are being used to kill our innocent people. Shots are being fired at our sad people. Whenever the majority of the people of Bengal want to take over the rule of the country, conspiracies have been hatched against us.
Yahya Khan said that I wanted to join the round table meeting on March 10. I talked to him on the telephone. I told him you are the president of the country, come to Dhaka and see how my poor people have been killed. My mother’s lap has been emptied
I have already said that there will be no round table meeting. What round table meeting? Whose round table meeting? Shall I sit at the round table meeting with those who have emptied my mother’s sister’s lap? On the 3rd, I called for non-cooperation in the platoon. I said stop office-court, rent, tax. You agreed.
All of a sudden, after five hours of meeting with someone without consulting me or us, Yahya Khan put all the blame on me and the people of Bengal. Bhutto blamed but my Bengali people were shot dead. We shoot, it’s our fault, we shoot bullets, it’s our fault.
Mr. Yahya has called a session. But my demand is to repeal martial law. The army must take back the barracks, investigate the killings. Then I will consider whether I will sit in the council or not. There is no question of sitting in the council before accepting this demand, the people did not give me that right. The blood stains have not dried yet, I will not go to the council on the 25th to shed the blood of the martyrs.
Brethren, do you believe me? I don’t want a prime minister, I want human rights. He could not take me by showing the greed of the Prime Minister, he could not hang me on the gallows. You brought me out of the conspiracy case with blood.
At this racecourse that day I said, I will repay the blood debt with blood; Remember? Today I am ready to repay the blood debt with blood.
I would like to say that from today, courts, kacharis, high courts, supreme courts, offices, courts, educational institutions will be closed indefinitely. No employee will go to the office. This is my instruction. Rickshaws will run, trains will run and everything will run so that the poor do not suffer.
The train will run but the army cannot be brought and taken. I will not be responsible for any accident.
Government semi-government autonomous bodies, including the Secretariat Supreme Court High Court Judge Court, will remain closed. Only East Bengal exchange banks will be open for two hours. Cannot go from East Pakistan to West Pakistan Dhaka. Telegraph telephone will be operational in Bangladesh. However, journalists can send news abroad.

The people of this country are being annihilated. All wheels will be turned off if needed. You will bring the salary at the appointed time. If a single bullet is fired, you will build forts from house to house in Bengal. Whoever has to deal with the enemy. Roads must be closed. We will kill them in rice and water. If I am not there to give orders, if my colleagues are not there, you will continue the movement.
You are my brother, you stay in the barracks, no one will say anything. It will not be good to shoot. We can no longer claim 70 million people. Bengalis have learned to die, no one can stop them. The Awami League has formed a relief committee for the families of the martyrs and the injured. We will try to help. You will go through whatever you can.
The workers who participated in the seven-day strike could not work for the curfew – the industrial owners will pay them in full. I tell government employees to obey what I say. No one should be seen in the office. The rent-tax will remain closed till the release of this country. You leave it up to me. I know how to make a movement.
But keep in mind that the enemy has entered us, in disguise they want to create self-loathing.
Bengalis and Bengali Hindus and Muslims are all our brothers, we have a responsibility to protect them. If radio, television and newspapers do not broadcast the news of our movement, then no Bengali will go to radio and television.
If we can decide peacefully, there is a possibility of living as brothers, otherwise there is no possibility. Do not exaggerate, face-to-face can be closed.
Be prepared, it will not work when it is cold. Movements and protests will continue. If the movement slows down, they will jump on us. Maintain discipline. No nation can win the struggle without discipline.
My request is to form a struggle committee under the leadership of Awami League in every village mahalla union. Be prepared with whatever you have at hand. When I have given blood, I will give more blood. I will release the people of this country inshallah.
